Yves Jarvis is the solo project of Montreal-based musician, producer and composer Jean-Sebastian Audet. Over the course of five years – Audet is only 23 years old – and a steady stream of self-produced albums and EP’s, the youngster laid down the framework for a constantly mutating series of musical environments. He links together contemporary r&b, cubist avant-funk, low-key soul and indie pop into countless successes of confessional, honest song writing. ‘Good Will Come To You’, his brilliant, 21-song debut album under his former moniker Un Blonde, landed him a spot on the long list for the highly acclaimed Canadian Polaris Music Prize in 2017.
Yves Jarvis is a clean slate, a move away from Un Blonde, a new chapter. “I knew I needed something that I could identify with.” Each aspect of Audet’s work is immensely personal, and Yves Jarvis reflects this literally. Yves is Audet’s middle name, while Jarvis is his mother’s last name. The content of his song writing also dramatically changed. The last record was the joy of the morning, this record is the pain of the night before sleep. The music is never cold but at once warm, haunting and unfamiliar while remaining inviting and kind. It’s comfort and discomfort. It’s an exploration of what it means to be Yves Jarvis, a deepening of his artistic vision and a compelling though also soothing listen.
''highly unique connections between hints of contemporary r&b, cubist avant-funk, low-key soul, indie pop, and confessional songwriting.''
